Looking at NUS with Block B4 Eyes

Mission Statement: Graphic Representation of the View From B4

ViewfromB4 is an attempt to chronicle of all the happenings in NUS and Temasek Hall, as well as other things going on with a CLEAR and UNBIASED stance. If something is going on anywhere in NUS, I want to know about it, to write it down as part of public journalism. I started this pet project to give the undergraduates and students a sense of history of the smaller life in NUS.

My goal for this site is part of my vision: for the creation of a microcosm of civil society within NUS. Students, with their different aspirations in life working within their own societies and personal capabilities to consciously futher the development of society, or rather, the student body. Undergraduates, actively working to make the lowest strata of university, the undergraduates themselves, self-reliant and more independent of the top-level organization of the university.

I realise this is in itself a political aspiration. But as to fulfil this political aspiration, I realise this blog will have to be politcally unbiased. It will remain neutral and objective, and my personal thoughts will remain on my personal blog.

Here’s to future visions and future societies.

Posting policy

Apparently there are a lot of things going on in NUS and you can check out a lot of them if you logged in to IVLE and looked at the event calender there. So there is a posting policy to what I actually put into this blog. Basically its completely up to my discretion, but I will probably stick to the following guidelines

Posting policy is always subject to revision.

Why Was ViewFromB4 Started?

Basically I was inspired by Jeff Ooi, who writes his blog Screenshots at www.jeffooi.com. Similarly, I want to do the same thing: to become an important online journal that will aid in the formation of civil society and awareness but in the context of the National University of Singapore. What I want to see in the future of NUS is in my mission statement: a thriving, undergraduate-driven society working for the betterment of each other.

Why Was This Blog Named ViewfromB4?

I feel that if I wrote from a slightly personal perspective, I would be able to justify reports from my own hall since my exposure to activities from other halls is rather limited. I felt that somebody needed to write about things that happen and bring to the public's light on what happens in my hall, in my faculty, and in this university. If it praises the university, I bring good name and carry its pride. If it somewhat incriminates the university, I hope that it will function as a call for improvement.
